The effectiveness of the spells amazed her from the beginning....

Anger further fueled the energy and determination with which Jezebel mastered that lost knowledge, and within a few months, she not only studied the entire book, but also thoroughly trained herself in the mental and physical preparation that allowed for its full application.
The "Heart" of that magic consisted in developing perceptive abilities that were considered natural in human beings, something everyone possessed within themselves but which needed to be cultivated appropriately. The spells, while invoking the intervention of the various deities worshipped, were all primarily directed at "nature," meaning the unity of all living species, which can only exist by constantly interacting with one another.
For example: In the face of a circulatory illness, the entity responsible for the ailment (today it would be called a microbe or virus) was evoked and convinced that its action was detrimental to the global order and unnecessary. It was asked to act to repair the damage it had caused, and it was thanked for its work, inviting it to return with prayers and symbolic offerings.
After completing the self-training, and always keeping everyone in the dark, even her two beloved parents, Jezebel began to apply her new knowledge to real cases, deemed "simple," as they were primarily aimed at infants or young people (Mother Nature, it was stated from the beginning of the book, was generally more "generous" and caring towards such individuals).
The effectiveness of the spells amazed her from the beginning. She could easily cure all the major childhood illnesses of her time in an instant. The child or adolescent would invariably recover within a few hours and begin activities that indicated they were in top form (such as playing, defeating all the opponents who had previously beaten them, or improvising a hunt for some small animal, bringing home lunch for the whole family).
The spells could also be activated from a great distance, but it took a lot of energy, experience, and skill to do so. The "beginners" acted directly on the patient, and they worked more effectively if there was physical contact between the practitioner's hands and the patient's body. This meant that, from the first experiences, word spread of the incredible powers Jezebel had acquired, and it wasn't long before people, even from out of town, showed up at the temple specifically asking about Jezebel and her abilities.
The temple's high priest, initially perplexed, immediately gave Jezebel free rein when she proposed the possibility of demanding compensation from those healed and paying it directly into the temple's coffers. Within a very short time, the flow of patients became steady, and with a continuous growth trend, which went hand in hand with Jezebel's popularity, which by then had spread throughout the entire kingdom. About a year after finding the book, Jezebel had become an expert; her spells worked even on adults and the elderly. She had successfully cast some spells even from a distance, and had designed and constructed some for rarer conditions not described in the book... and she was happy... even if...
From her first experiences, Jezebel had realized that there was a major drawback to that magic: it had direct consequences not only on the patient but also on the priest who used it. This was because it required both physical and mental effort to "convince" the pathogenic entity by redirecting its vital energy toward other goals and tasks.
The effort increased based on the severity of the condition, the presence of multiple conditions, the distance, and the patient's age, and decreased with the practice of that specific type of spell acquired by the priest.
Jezebel had always been petite and extremely thin; a handful of sessions a day were enough to exhaust her, and she was soon forced to ask the High Priest of the Temple to drastically limit the number of interventions requested.
...then came the most important event of her life...and of that time...
