Miriam was a wonderful girl, petite and restless, from a simple family, living in a rural area of Veneto very close to where I currently live as well.
Heroin addiction struck Miriam before she came of age and accompanied her for about 10 years, a period about which, at least with me, she always maintained a stubborn silence. The little information I have was told to me by other people, with only one direct eyewitness (who, I must say, does not have my trust), but everyone agrees in describing a young and beautiful woman willing to do anything, including prostitution, to obtain her daily dose.
During the same period, the first associations with local criminal figures began, some “flirtations” with the national scene, including a short period in Sicily, and a period of imprisonment (at the “Giudecca” in Venice). Miriam was always confused and vague about this, but by doing the math, she should have started her new life shortly after 2000, managing completely on her own to free herself from heroin and soon after, marrying a man from her hometown.
In the posts/paragraphs that follow, I describe Miriam's main partners, starting from her husband up to today. I do this because, as we will see, each partner also marks a very specific moment and situation in Miriam's life, who, unlike all other women, has always chosen and ultimately kept her partners (with the notable exception of partner no. 2). In practice, by describing the partner, you get a clear idea of Miriam's own personal and human evolution. It's a bit like the French saying “cherche la femme” (look for the woman), simply applied in a feminine rather than masculine sense.
